Your adventure begins in Vancouver, BC, when you catch our charter plane to the lodge on Sunday morning. This stunning flight over the Pacific Coast Mountains is not only spectacular, but it gives you a perfect feeling how remote and wild this area is. As you listen to the steady hum of the engine, the skyline changes from the Cityscapes of Vancouver to the jagged mountain peaks of the Pacific Coast Range. Ancient glaciers, hidden valleys, and mountains covered by forest canopies. At this point I recommend that you mentally bag up any left over stress and mentally throw them out the window, because for the next days you are free! Free of cell phones, email, and obligations. The only thing you have to worry about is making it to meal time and getting on the boat. After about an hour and half of flying, you touch down at the airstrip, where we transfer you by vehicle to the lodge.
After arriving at the lodge we get you situated in your comfy room, have a tasty hot lunch, and go over the week ahead. We think it is important you know what to expect, we offer some safety tips, and get you set up with your guide. If your up to it after your travels, everyone gears up for the afternoon photo shoot.. Your guide will take three photographers to each boat. Each guide has a 16 ' flat bottom boat to explore the Chilko River and Lake. Cruising up the Lake along the shoreline or quietly floating and drifting the river until you spot a Grizzly Boar, a Sow and her cubs, or maybe a loan female. Your guide will position the boat so you can photograph the bears, safely without disturbing them or comprimising you or the bears safety.
About the Guides
All of our guides are experienced Wilderness Guides and Grizzly Bear enthusiasts. They are very knowledgeable about the area and will put you in the best spots for photographing the bears without disturbing them or compromising you or the bears safety.
Our photography shoots are focused on the best light. Generally we will have a morning and late afternoon shoot depending on the weather. In the morning we will go out for a few hours, take an afternoon break which you can go for a hike, review your photos, take a canoe out, or just relax and read a book, in the afternoon we go for another afternoon photo shoot.
The equipment we are using to look and photograph the bears are flat bottom jet sleds. We use the motors to move up the river, but normally drift the river with oars. We offer three photographers and one guide to each boat. This allows each photographer to have ample room to set up their tripod and camera.
It is not uncommon to see many large boar grizzly bears as well as many sow and cub combinations. It is exhilarating to see a mother grizzly passing her fishing knowledge down to her cubs and witnessing their first catch. Watching these majestic Grizzlies playing and fishing in their natural environment is an experience you will never forget. Sometimes at night when we sit on the deck checking out the stars, you can experience the sound of the Grizzly Bears roaring in the valley, the sounds echo along the river, its pure wild.
At the end of a great day of grizzly bear photography and being in the great outdoors, our cozy Canadian wilderness log lodge is a perfect place to warm up, chill out, and enjoy a tasty gourmet meal, a cold or hot drink, and a relaxing soak in the hot tub. Sometimes SomsmmmmSssssdddddf
