Chilko River and Lake is an important spawning and rearing habitat for Sockeye, Chinook, and Coho Salmon, as well as steelhead, Rainbow, Bulltrout, Dolly Varden, and Rocky Mountain Whitefish. The health of the Chilko is dependent on the keystone species of salmon that spawn and rear here.
Since 1994 the Pacific Salmon have been on a steady decline. The Pacific Salmon range from Alaska to California. This is not a BC issues, this is a West Coast issue. We cannot afford to lose our wild salmon!
There is one person in BC that is trying to help with the support of many. Alexandra Morton, she has been fighting to save the salmon. She should get awards for being tenacious, but with all fearless leaders she needs the support of the people who believe that the wild salmon of the Pacific are worth saving.
